BRAIN HEALTH COACHING, THE STAMFORD CLINICAL SERVICES METHOD

The Stamford Clinical Services in collaboration with Amen Clinics Method represents a true paradigm shift in optimizing and healing the brain. We believe it is critical to look at your brain within the context of your life. Our method integrates the important aspects of your life including:

THE PROBLEM

Today, psychiatry is practiced by many physicians the same way it was years ago: A doctor assesses your symptoms, forms a diagnosis based on those reported symptoms, and then prescribes a medication at a dosage that may or may not work. From there, it’s a matter of watching to see if he or she got it right. Many times, patients will get multiple diagnoses and prescriptions before they find relief – if at all. Treatment success rates have not improved in decades, even though technology and science have progressed dramatically.

OUR APPROACH

At Stamford Clinical Services, we see the condition of every patient as a result of 4 factors, all of which can have a meaningful impact on mental health: your biology, physiology, psychology, social life, and spiritual life. We have designed our intake process to look at each of these factors. This allows us to truly understand you.

PSYCHOLOGICAL – your blueprints and any significant developmental events or emotional traumas in the past.

BIOLOGICAL – your genetics, hormones, diet, exercise, and any history of brain injury or exposure to toxins.

SOCIAL – relationships, friends, family, and others.

SPIRITUAL – your sense of meaning and purpose in life.

EMDR

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. Repeated studies show that by using EMDR therapy people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to make a difference. It is widely assumed that severe emotional pain requires a long time to heal. EMDR therapy shows that the mind can in fact heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma.

EMDR & Trauma

To understand EMDR therapy, it’s important to first understand how PTSD or any small traumatic event can impact people. People who have developed this type of disorder often have ‘re-experiencing symptoms’ or exhibit avoidance symptoms, which can include:

Flashbacks of the event
Nightmares and bad dreams
Uncontrollable and frightening thoughts about the event
Avoidance of people, activities, or places that remind them of the traumatic experience
Severe emotional distress or physical reactions to something that makes them think of the event
Irritability, aggressive behavior, angry outbursts
Feeling guilt, shame, or worry about the event

2013
“…Alejandra is a very skilled, competent psychologist. She was very engaging, easy to relate with, calm, outgoing and deeply compassionate. She worked primarily with adults who had a serious psychiatric disorder. She also worked with families and personnel from area agencies. One area that she is most passionate about is diversity, both as the result of her own background and her commitment to understanding her patients. Alejandra is a very strong advocate for cultural diversity. She gave many lectures and talks on cultural diversity during my time at Hall-Brook(St Vincents). She frequently sought me out to see if she could do more training.

“Alejandra was a pleasure to have on my team. She enjoyed excellent relationships with her co-workers. She is respectful of people and puts everyone at ease with her compassion and a good sense of humor. All of her work was done on time and competently. Her productivity as a clinician is excellent. She always meets deadlines and time frames. She is always willing to” go the extra mile,” for patients and their families. I have no reservations recommending her for any training/clinical position.

Sincerely,
James McCreath, Ph.D.

To Whom It May Concern:
In my role as Program Manager at The WorkPlace, in Bridgeport, CT, I had the pleasure of selecting Alejandra Hochstedler as a consultant to a grant serving a unique demographic. Alejandra is a gifted professional who is facile at communicating with and connecting to a diverse group of individuals. Ally’s education and credentials speak for themselves, but what truly distinguishes her is how she does her work. Ally is highly personable and provides both a safe and realistic space for individuals and groups to problem solve, acknowledge and move forward in their lives.

Ally combines compassion and realism and holds people to the truth while facilitating self-discovery and support for meaningful transformation. Her creative approach is based on understanding and accepting each individual, understanding how they interact in society and helping to bridge gaps with concrete actions. Ally is a lovely, gracious and professional individual who is bold and authentic in her approach to improve the lives of others.
